As a person who has had incarcerated pen pals, I have come to understand more about the prison system in America and understand the challenges within it. Just sending you my love and support. ❤️
I so appreciate and love pen pals. Just letting people inside know that they're not forgotten, that they can make a difference and be in community changes everything. Thank you so so much for what you do.
Many don’t realize how much this difference makes, but it truly does help. Things like this come naturally to me because I care about others and like making a difference in whatever way I can for others.
Thank you for sharing Bridget. I'm keenly aware of the stigma and judgement surrounding people that are incarcerated and their families. You are not alone and neither is your son. Peace.
Hello Bridget - Your Substack was sent to my inbox because I am writing a book about having a son in prison. I understand everything you are going through and your words ring so true. I'll never forget the time I decided to tell the truth when strangers I'd just met asked me about my kids or the first time I saw my son with handcuffs wrapped tightly around his wrists. It's been a rollercoaster ride for years. Sending love.
Thank you for reminding me of the challenges of those who are living behind bars. In Iowa there is a group called “Living Beyond the Bars” that works with individuals after they are released from prisons, assisting them in employment, housing and transportation. Big challenges when starting all over.
