Loved hearing your voice reading this article! Ironically, listening to this one in Ireland where I took myself for a writer's conference. If you haven't done it before then, take yourself for your 50th next year. The Indie Network Ireland conference is amazing (formerly Ireland's Publishing Show). Your book is waiting to be shared with the world. And Ireland is awesome! (It's my first time here.) Keep up the great work!
I just got goosebumps! Love that this landed while you're there. I'm planning on making it over for my 50th! Maybe it'll coincide with that conference next year.... brilliant. Thank you for making my morning.
Great post Bridget! I def resonated with your comments about the changes we go thru as we age! You are beautiful woman, both inside and out, no matter what you don't like that you see! ♥️ Definitely praying for his parole!!! 🙏
At 50 I felt pretty good. It didn’t bother me to age - I looked and felt great. But the fifties ended up being a second adolescence. Buckle up! The other side is a new land. Fingers crossed for everything you dream of, Bridget.
I was always told my forties would be so freeing. I felt so free that I decided to have a baby at 41 and that made my forties a bit less freeing than others might have known. I'm buckled in for whatever madness is to come. If you're courage is any indicator, I'm ready for the ride….
We definitely all took our younger necks for granted. As someone who just turned 60 a couple of weeks ago, I can tell you that it really does keep getting better. Yes, I too lament my looks pre-sag, but let's be honest: as females, we have lamented our looks--and what we don't have--our whole lives. Now I'm doing the best I can with what I've got, and I'm pretty thankful for what I've got. 60 today is not the 60 of our youth (even when you're not Demi Moore) and neither is 49. Yes, I would love to have a nip and tuck along my jawline (and if I ever have an extra many thousands of dollars sitting around, I just might do it), but I am also more content with myself and life than ever before. Definitely worth the losses that come with aging.
*I wrote about everything I've learned about life up until this point in "60 Pearls of Wisdom from Someone Old Enough to Have Gathered Them" in honor of my big birthday. Might make you feel better about some of the aging stuff...
No one believes the nines. 29, 39, 49. This year I'll turn 69, and I will probably do what I have always done, skip it and go right to the Zero. I'll go from 68 to 70 or 70ish. This year I started using those undereye serums that make the bags under your (my) eyes go away. When Mom passes, I'll probably have something done surgically to take back the ten years that caretaking has stolen from my life and added to my face. Maybe not. But that eye serum, a game changer for this old broad. Happy almost birthday
After I turned 50, I felt a freedom to speak my mind (but still speak it politely as a good southern girl does). It's easier for me to say "no" more often, but I'm also saying "yes" more often—yes to the things I've always wanted to do but didn't prioritize because I put motherhood or wifehood first. As moms and wives, we tend to do that A LOT. I have more wrinkles, but I also have more wisdom, and understand my life so much better with over 50 years under my belt. Have a wonderful birthday, Bridget, and I'll see on the Zoom call next Friday.
I get so much inspiration from women who have crossed over 50 and come back to tell me/us that it's freeing. It gives me such hope, thank you! Looking forward to Friday. 🖤

"The truth is, you can be grateful and still mourn."
Word, homegirl. Keep up the faith and the good fight!
Thanks, man. Linking arms, always.

And yet, age brings us awareness of the true people in our lives. So thankful for you.

🎸I’ve no doubt you’ll rock it!
Thinking about you and a positive parole outcome.
How do I choose a book pick? I do not see the entire book title and author nor do I see a link??
The poll only allows for a few characters. The title is there, you'll have to Google or go to Amazon to check them out.
🙏 for parole! Keep marching forward.
Thank you, Deb!! 🖤

I mean, if you're saying it, it's true. I love reading about your life and always get so much wisdom doing so. Off to find the post!! Thank you. 😘

Oh, do tell! And happiest 69. You inspire me every day. Serious.

Acceptance is KEY!! Sure don't give a rat's #$$, or a flying &@(% what others think. That helps tremendously, but you know I agree with Billie, too!!!
You inspire me, weekly. Less %$&*@ given every day. 🖤
Love yourself. That's how your kids will learn to love themselves.
I sure wish I had taken this to heart sooner in life. You're so right. 🖤
