I've been thinking a lot lately about how often we hold opposites in our hands. Grateful and enjoying freedom and the pursuit of fun while carrying the weight of worrying about your son. Life can be so lifey.
Truth !!!! We are never in full vacation mode. We make the best of it - making sure our phones are with us for the call !!!! Thinking of him as we travel , then the guilty feeling when he asks how was the trip.
Mixing your personal experience with current events and prison history is very effective. You are educating us and making it clear how criminal justice practices impact public safety and the common good. It's complicated. Your son's story makes it clearer. Thank you.
your words....i literally feel each one! the battles, the agony of this journey is all helping your boy grow, in some ways you wish he didn't need to, but he will be a stronger more empathetic person in the end, and you....oh mama, you have my heart!
Love what you shared - thank you! The lil gifts for your son to give him along the way on the trip reminded me of times we did that when our kids were little... didn't have cell phones then, so we were 'lucky'. But now, I see the same thing w/ my granddaughter wanting my daughter's phone while waiting or in the car, to watch youtube. I guess the new norm for this younger generation!?!? I hope you enjoyed your trip, despite having to drive by several prisons and the reminders of realty.
Thank you, Gina. We did enjoy time away. I do think we were exceedingly lucky to experience the world around us (back when) instead of having our brain interrupted by the pull toward whatever is playing on a screen. 🖤
Reminds me of the quote “Wherever you go, there you are.” Jon Kabat-Zinn (I had to look up the reference 🤣) Perspective is everything and you share yours so very well! Thank you for that gift!

So very, very much. Thank you for understanding this so intimately.

Lord, all of this. Wanting to share the things he would love but not because that feels wrong. 😔

Thank you, friend. I keep believing in some brighter day when we all breathe a little deeper and stop clenching. 🖤
