I feel the rage. The policies are backward and barbaric. Not good science. A system of broken men intentionally breaking men. Your narration is effective. But change on this scale requires a strategic plan and a champion. Who champions the cause of prison reform?

There are some great organizations in our state but because the problems are so deep and wide, they're all working on one tiny piece of the puzzle. From sentencing disparities to solitary confinement to visiting loss to medical mistreatment to lack of programming and on and on… it is Whack-A-Mole. Our legislature (each state dealing with its own State system) does not seem to care because the regular public does not seem to care. The more voices saying this matters, the more things will change. 🖤

Some People Press - Publishing autobiographical books by formerly incarcerated writers, as well as art books, and other subjects. I believe they work with inmates while incarcerated. I suspect like minded regarding many of the issues you spotlight. I just purchased and read “Trying to Catch Lightning in a Jar - Letters from Prison” by Patty Prewitt. It’s one way to approach public education about the absurd contradictions in the prison system.
