I’ve been saying for years that the “system” is broken 😡 but I had no knowledge or understanding of how inhumane and brutal prison is for the population inside it 😡🤬😡 It’s a system that breaks the spirit and takes hope far out of the equation for inmates & family members 💔💔 and it violates the 8th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which “prohibits cruel and unusual punishments, along with excessive bail and fines. This clause is designed to ensure fair and humane treatment within the criminal justice system.” What a crock of crap 💩 Prisons are disgusting, degrading, devastating, despicable, deplorable and most of all cruel and unusual punishment 🥶😩😤🤯
"Motherhood is nothing but the Olympics of holding on and letting go." So. Good.
Had the same thing happen this week with my sister. Sent her some books she requested. At her jail they have to come from Barnes and Noble - aren't allowed to come from Amazon bc they can actually be sent from all different suppliers. Have to be addressed a certain way. Did all the things as I have several times before. But for some unknown reason, they told her they were contraband and not allowed. If I want to try again, I will have to reorder and eat the cost. I share the shoes you walk in although yours are heavier than mine.
It is CRAZY-making. We can only send books with receipts that show it's specifically shipped by Amazon (not 3rd party sellers). The amount I've lost because they didn't get the "correct" receipt is unreal.
Oh my heart! So well written. So we'll expressed. Don't to the very end where you mention the phone call! Thanks for sharing! Bringing awareness to those who just don't know. ❤️
I’m a puddle of tears, Bridget. It’s so unfair and I’m so sorry and I hate everything about this cruelty. Thank you for letting us be with you in this too-small way. Maybe somehow Mother Mary will make a sliver peace known, I pray. I’m holding you in my broken heart. ♥️💔
Brutal Truth and Honesty. As a mother tears abound. Prayers abound more!
Sorry for the delay in responding - - - I have had trouble commenting on your posts most likely due to operator error. My friend Lucy,,, 95 years old just signed up for your Blog!! She is amazed at your writing and her heart goes out to you - - please don't grow weary - carry on Mama for your boy and all the others caught within this terrible system!
Happened upon this post by another writer on Substack who posted it in Notes. So powerful, honestly, this moved me in a very different way than reading about the kind of suffering that makes the news. In The Message, Ta-Nehisi Coates says he wants his writing to haunt people, for them to keep thinking about it well after the initial reading. I will keep thinking about you and your son and I will keep reading your words.
I am one of those moms too, no brunch, no hug, not even think of what day it is. And I recognize the “you have one minute left” voice (oh, yesterday, we switched from GTL to Securus in my county).
The penal system is cruel and inhumane. Thanks for your work.
Keep writing. It's a very effective form of resistance. You are shining a light into a place most people don't see.
Thank you friend, mostly for being part of my small resistance here.

Amen. We don't know what rehabilitation is in this country. We've been invested far too long in being cruel.

Sometimes words are insufficient. This is one of those times. So, I send a hug instead, and gratitude for your words.
I'll take all of the hugs. Thank you, sincerely. 🖤

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for being part of the awareness. <3

Thank you for always holding me-- this space is less lonely these days. 🖤
The best part of this place. In it together. ♥️🙏🏻

We should not grow weary of doing good. 😉

As a writer, you just encouraged me more than you know. As a human, even more so. Thank you for reading and for letting me know how it impacted you. 🖤

Sending you a virtual hug in the knowing. Do whatever you damn well please this weekend. 🖤
Thank you so much! Same to you 💛
